Welcome to Little Worlds of Wonder. Here, in my blog, we will explore together the mythology and folk tales of nature spirits all around the world. One of my aims is to ignite your imagination and share ideas about how you can bring the magic and wonder of Nature’s little friends into your home. From the high summits of the Andes of South America, to the woodlands of Europe, there are wondrous and enchanting tales about nature spirits. The most well-known and popular ones come from the European mythological tradition. Regardless of their origin, these stories speak of folk, who live between worlds. Their world is full of intrigue, wonder and magic. Time is suspended and their inhabitants are almost eternal, living without sickness. Just like us, these folk live in organised worlds. Some are hierarchical lead by royal families. Myths and stories recite that there are portals, places where our worlds meet. These entrances and doorways give us access to their world and they to ours. Portals are often secret places and in the wild. There are different lineages and families of beings: fairies, elves, goblins and leprechauns are just a few I can think of. As I am of Scottish and Irish ancestry, I have heard them called ‘the good folk’ or the ‘Tuatha Dé Danann’ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy. These are not always tiny angelic beings. Some are ghastly, giant-like or more our size. While many beings are benevolent and will bestow their blessings on the human world when asked, there are others that wreak havoc and chaos with their evil antics and schemes.
