This week didn’t quite go to happen. Work on the dollhouse has come to a stop, due to a supply issue. Instead, I started making books for the library. including a herbarium, using flowers I have dried. You can watch me create mini books in the video below.
I was inspired to create a herbarium after learning that Emily Dickinson, the great poet from the United States kept one as an young woman. Emily created her herbarium between 1836 and1846 and includes flowers she gathered from her home garden. It’s is an invaluable source of knowledge about 19th century gardens of Massachusetts but also gives us insight into Emily’s love of nature. You can view the digital version of the herbarium at Harvard’s Library: Meanwhile, you can learn more about Emily’s passion for gardening in Marta McDowells, Emily Dickinson’s Gardening Life, published by Timber Press.
Marta McDowells, Emily Dickinson’s Gardening Life, is available from Amazon.
